I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU). I received my Ph.D. in aerospace engineering from New Mexico State University and B.S. and M.S. degrees in Mechanical Engineering from Amirkabir University of Technology.

Nov 2024: Morad Nazari received the university-wide Industry Catalyst Award (in recognition of successfully fostering partnerships with industry and securing the highest amount of external funding from industry or businesses during the 2023-2024 fiscal year).
Sep 2024: Brennan McCann will present the invited talk “Circular restricted full three-body problem with rigid-body spacecraft dynamics in binary asteroid systems” at Cassyni Celestial Mechanics and Dynamical Astronomy Seminar Series.
Sep 2024: Matthew Wittal has won two NASA awards recently: Trailblazer Award (for leading work in collaboration with JAXA regarding mass property estimation and the development of their HTV-XG vehicle for Gateway, bridging the gap between our theoretical development and the hardware) and Team Award (for the contribution to the Gateway’s Distributed Control team). Congratulations Matt!
Aug 2024: DCSL contributed 5 papers at AIAA/AAS Astrodynamics Specialist Conference (2 presentations by Herman Gunter, 1 presentation by Marco Fagetti, 1 presentation by Matthew Wittal, and 1 presentation in collaboration) in Broomfield, CO.

Jul 2024: The manuscript “Mass property estimation on TSE(3) via unscented Kalman filter using RCS t hrusters” by McCann, Fagetti, Nazari, Wittal, and Smith is to appear in Acta Astronautica.
Jun 2024: It was a pleasure to visit Politecnico di Torino and Politecnico di Milano and present our research on on-manifold dynamics formulation and state and parameter estimation of space vehicles. Thanks to Ethan Burnett and Francesco Topputo (Politecnico di Milano) and Stefano Primatesta and Elisa Capello (Politecnico di Torino) for arranging these seminars and their hospitality!

Apr 2023: Experimental testbed project to be started in early May (Marco Fagetti, Junpeng Zhou, and Sagar Sarkar will be working on this joint project).
Apr 2023: Junpeng Zhou and Sagar Sarkar joined the team to work on the experimental testbed project funded by Air Force.
Apr 2023: Marco Fagetti successfully defended his MS thesis “Nonlinear Dynamics Analysis and Control of Space Vehicles with Flexible Structures” and continues his education towards PhD.
